You can add numbers in any order and get the same sum.

Example: 14 + 2 = 2 + 14

Associative property of addition

You can group the addends with parentheses and get the same sum.

Example: 2 + ( 3 + 7 ) = ( 2 + 3 ) + 7

Identity property of addition

Adding zero does not change a number.

Example: 9 + 0 = 9
