The mean is the average of the numbers. You find the mean by adding the numbers together and then dividing by the number of numbers in the group.

solution

First, count how many numbers are in the group.

There are 8 numbers.

Now add all the numbers together:

6 + 5 + 9 + 7 + 9 + 7 + 6 + 7 = 56

Now divide the sum by the number of numbers:

56 ÷ 8 = 7

The mean number of pages that Xavier read was 7.
