A basketball league wants to order 78 T-shirts for the teams. If there are 7 T-shirts in each package, how many packages of T-shirts should the league order?

Divide the number of T-shirts by the number in each package.

– 7

Now think about the remainder. The answer is either 11 or 12.

Multiply:

7 × 11 = 77

7 × 12 = 84

11 packages (77 T-shirts) is not enough. 12 packages (84 T-shirts) is correct. The league should order 12 packages of T-shirts.
